What was the libel? Yes, I know Jeff says he called the FBI but - - technically - - was what Schiller wrote a lie? Did the FBI not talk to Shapiro? And wouldn't you think they asked him if he, himself, was not perhaps part of the plan? Hell - - I asked that myself!I remember Shapiro coming to me once saying the Globe was going to publish a story about me - - not a thing he could do to stop it - - but he wanted me to give him an interview because - - he actually asked if I wouldn't rather get it from a friend. (the shaft) That's how I remember the conversation going - - and I told him no - - I didn't want to be part of any story but if I was going to get screwed over, I would rather it NOT be by someone I knew.
I wondered when the Thomas crap happened if they weren't playing that game again - - not Good Cop/Bad Cop but vicious tab reporter/friendly tab reporter.
OK - - so if the FBI did talk to him - regardless of who initiated the call - - and if they did suggest maybe he was part of the plot to get his reaction.... Schiller may have been spinning a bit but - - Hello - - - isn't that what Shapiro's job was and wasn't he so proud to be in Schiller's book?
Pot calling kettle black, indeed.
Question 2 - - - exactly what damage did that bring about? I would think Shapiro lost his job at the Globe for taping his bosses and bringing those tapes to the authorities - - so he didn't lose his job because of what was written in the book. He wasn't charged with anything - - - so no damage to his criminal record. He didn't have a nervous breakdown. Didn't lose a fortune. So exactly what damage? I hope someone will tell me what it is so perhaps I could sue myself! I mean, I got rougher treatment in at least two books!
Question 3 - Does anyone else think that this might be the result of the break in the Schiller/Shapiro relationship and the nasty way Schiller portrayed Shapiro in his movie? (Personally, I thought that was a very obvious attempt to hurt Shapiro's feelings after telling the boy he was going to be the star!
Finally, not a question but a statement. I think the lawsuit is merely a means to an end. Shapiro wants certain information out there and this lawsuit is one way to get it done.
I think he wants Schiller and Thomas and others to speak out - - it will make people interested in the case again and maybe a publisher will jump on the book (which I personally think should be published as it would open many eyes to how bad things actually were.)
