2. "Sabrina Sighted In Mexico City"
In response to message #0

   Sabrina Fair Allen

On the morning of Tuesday June 10, Greg Allen received an e-mail tip with the address of a preschool in Mexico City. It was the daycare that his missing daughter, Sabrina, had been attending. One week later, she was again missing.

Coincidentally, Allen was in Mexico City when he received the tip. He had arrived two weeks prior and was scheduled to stay for two more. "What has been missing from the search for Sabrina is my ability to speak Spanish well. I am in an immersive Spanish program and living with a host family. In the mornings I take Spanish lessons, and in the afternoons I try to find Sabrina," says Allen.

"I was trying to generate press in Mexico so that we could find them. I got great press in Texas, but was still having trouble in Mexico. I did have an article on Saturday in The Herald, an English newspaper in Mexico City," he said.

But Allen did not find Sabrina -- someone that knew Sabrina found him, unaware that he was only about 10 miles away. "It was nothing short of a miracle. I came here knowing the odds; this is a city of over 20 million people."

The tipster wishes to remain anonymous, so we will call her Maria. Maria says that she has known Sabrina since she began attending the school in September. She goes by the name Blanca.

Maria says Sabrina is obviously a troubled child. She is sweet and friendly, but has inner turmoil. In school, she seems very distracted She seems like a child with an unstable home.

Maria says that Sabrina is suffering in her mother's care because she does not get enough attention. It is obvious that Sabrina's hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are dyed black. Sabrina told Maria that she is not allowed to talk about what is bothering her.

Sabrina told Maria, "We don't have money. We don't have it to eat or to pay the school. A friend pays the school." Maria says that Sabrina obviously feels responsible for the situation. One time Sabrina refused a second helping of lunch saying, "It will cost my mommy more money."

"Sabrina frequently misses breakfast, and sometimes goes without dinner. She looks like she has poor physical care. Her mother has a bad reputation at the school; I don't think she has a job, and she is frequently rude, with a bad attitude," said Maria.

Maria went to the internet, and searched the website of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC, ncmec.org). She found a picture of Sabrina with blonde hair. She was convinced it was her, and made a tip.

Maria also tried for a few days to contact Allen directly. Armed with Blanca's real name from the NCMEC, she found Sabrina's website, FindSabrina.org. Before this, she was unaware that there was any reward being offered. "My motivation is Sabrina's well-being," Maria says.

The e-mail tip was short, but detailed. "I had a good feeling as soon as I read it," said Allen. "I forwarded the e-mail to the FBI and went immediately to the Embassy. I also met with the tipster that evening. The next day the AFI went to the school and followed them home." The AFI is the Mexican equivalent of the FBI.

"I knew it was Sabrina. Before the abduction, Sabrina mentioned that she was going to have Snow White hair; Snow White was her favorite character. Now her hair is short and black, and she is using the name Blanca. Snow White is Blanca Nieves in Spanish," said Allen

Sabrina has been missing for almost 14 months. She was taken by her non-custodial mother, Dara Llorens, on April 21, 2002. Llorens was diagnosed with a personality disorder during the Allens' divorce. Llorens has used many aliases, and had supervised visits prior to the abduction. When the court allowed unsupervised visits, Llorens took Sabrina to Mexico.

They were in Mexico illegally, and the authorities got the proper paperwork to deport them. Then something went wrong. "Friday I was told that they were in custody, and to get on a plane. When I landed, I heard that they were locked in their house," he said. "I had a bad feeling. Dara is very skilled at manipulation. I tried to warn the authorities that she would do something unpredictable."

"It was a difficult Father's Day. I didn't know what was happening down there."

On Tuesday, he learned the bad news. "She escaped. I was very upset and frustrated. How did this happen?"

Llorens is charged with Interference With Child Custody, a felony in Texas. She could also face federal international kidnaping charges.

Allen is concerned about Sabrina, "Dara's care of Sabrina is consistent with the past -- it's so sad what Sabrina is going through. It is obviously affecting her. She needs a stable, loving home."

"The courageous person that made the tip lost her job! That made me upset. I told her she was a hero. She gave me an incredible gift, even if they got away. Please send her a donation through the Find Sabrina Fund," said Allen. "Dara planned the abduction for a long time. She apparently had false identification papers, too. This time she is on the run. Losing them is difficult, but better than not having found them and all. Hopefully we can find them again soon."
