Stahl To Anchor 48 Hours Investigates August 21, 2002
(CBS) Lesley Stahl, a 60 Minutes
correspondent since 1991, has been named
anchor of 48 Hours Investigates. She will
continue her full-time duties at 60 Minutes.
48 Hours Investigates will premiere with Stahl
at the helm on Friday, Sept. 27, (8-9 p.m. ET/PT)
in its new time slot.
"Few journalists command the hard-earned
respect and credibility of Lesley Stahl," said
CBS News President Andrew Heyward. "48
Hours Investigates will afford Lesley another
well-established outlet for her formidable
talents."
48 Hours Investigates will have a new focus
and a new contemporary on-air look this fall.
From unsolved crimes to intricate scams to
real-life dramas, the broadcast’s award-winning
team of correspondents will uncover and examine high-impact stories. The
single-topic news magazine is the third longest-running primetime program on
television and enters its 16th season this fall.
Prior to joining 60 Minutes, Stahl served as CBS News’ chief White House
correspondent during the Carter, Reagan and George H.W. Bush presidencies. During
much of that time, she also served as moderator of Face The Nation, CBS News'
Sunday public affairs broadcast.
Her experiences covering Washington for more than 20 years became the subject of
Stahl's book, "Reporting Live." Beginning with her first big assignment for CBS News,
the Watergate scandal, she has covered most of the major stories of our time – from
the 1981 attempt on President Reagan's life to the Persian Gulf War to the Sept. 11
attacks - and virtually every national political convention and election night since 1974.
Stahl has anchored several CBS News documentaries, including "The Politics of
Cancer" and "In the Red Blues," about the budget deficit.
