"odds and ends"

Peter Boyles appeared in the TV remake of THE SHINING last night - - did you see?

Look for him at the AA meeting - - he stands up and says, Hi. My name's Peter and I'm an alcoholic."

Geesh - - take a night off to watch a movie and .... just can't ever really get away from the case. *grin*

Alot of us can't get away from the case for various reasons:
tabloids in the local convenience store, headlines based on some commentator's ramblings, mention of the case by someone discussing more recent cases, or just a nagging sense of outrage at a media-led lynch mob and the resulting travesty of a bungled investigation.

Get away from the case? We all might want to from time to time.

But I didn't know there was a remake... the last one I saw was a movie and had Rebecca De Mornay in it.

Myself - - that was the remake - - the first one had Jack Nicholson as Jack and Shelley Duvall as Wendy. There was no topiary, there was a maze. A really good movie if you like horror films.

GANGEL: And while his high-profile cases have made him something of a celebrity in Atlanta, with articles describing his 'movie star looks,'
his family makes sure he keeps his sense of humor.

Unidentified Boy: Movie star handsome, with green eyes and styled hair.

GANGEL: And what do you get for saying that?

Boy: He gives us a dollar every time.

KANE: Mr. Wood, neither I nor Chief Beckner are going to be directed by you,
or by your clients, or by anybody else as to when it would be appropriate to file
criminal charges. When we reach the point -- as every prosecutor in this country
recognizes, when we reach the point where there is an individual against whom
we can prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt, we will file the charges.
