"SBTC continued"

Ministry of Small Business, Tourism, and Culture (Canada)

Now here's an SBTC that I don't think has even been mentioned. If you go to dictionary.com and enter SBTC, it is the first of three acronyms that comes up. This would also account for the foreign faction.

The "S" and the "B" are changed by one letter. The "T" and "C" remain the same. It should read TCTC...The Crime of The Century.

Suppose it really and truly was a signature?
SBTC
Shaun "Badxxx" Thomas Cline.
This is a known sex offender who lives in Boulder, Colorado but has failed to register as a person convicted as a sexual offender.

Unfortunately, it appears that his conviction for a sexual offense was in a different jurisdiction and that he merely moved to Boulder but failed to register.

On edit: He was even more interesting for awhile when it was noted that he seems to have some problems with automobiles and it was assumed that someone who likes to drive fast would be such a race enthusiast that he might well use the word 'victory' as well as the initials SBTC.

Turned out to be a dead-end, however.

Because the BPD bungled the case from the beginning and just about everything attempted now turns out to be a dead end.

Its not known to me, but I assume its known to the investigators. I think it became a lower priority to them once it was realized his original offense was in a different jurisdiction. I think he is considered just a kid who can't hold a job if its known he is a sex offender.

The obvious question is: what is your alibi for 1996?
If you were an investigator how would go about even locating alibi witnesses for an event so long ago?

   Dave,

Interesting that you surmised the possibility that SBTC could be a reference to comic book characters (superheroes). As I was lurking through the archives, I came across a Q&A with Erin Moriartey regarding Gary Oliva. Braveheart had asked what hobbies, interests, Oliva had. Moriartey's answer was that Oliva was quite bright, an artist, a cartoonist.

I wonder if there is a record of any of his "cartoon" work. What type of cartoons did he like to draw? What kind of characters? Where they of the super hero genre?

In the memorial, we saw a photo of Oliva carrying what looked like an artist's portfolio. I wonder what the "art" was?

Coincidence? Are you on to something, Dave?

   Margoo,

I was just speculating, given the tone of the ransom note. At that particular time in thinking about it, I just happened to think of Superheros (capitalized out of respect) and comic books. Doesn't it read something like that genre? I can easily imagine all that nonsense in a comic book.

It's interesting that Oliva had those hobbies and interests. Thanks for posting that. I hope someone looks into it.
