LAST EDITED ON Jun-19-02 AT 04:41 PM (EST)

From USA Today's interview with Dominick Dunne:
Does he think California Rep. Gary Condit is involved? (in the death of Chandra Levy)
"I don't think he killed her. I think he could have known it was going to happen."
He doesn't want to say more. "I'm a little nervous at this point." Fear of being sued, he says. He had a recent "scary" phone call after appearing on Larry King's TV show. A caller asked about the JonBenet Ramsey case. Dunne made a 30-second remark and moved on. The next day Dunne had calls on his message machines at both his unlisted phone in New York and his unlisted phone at his home in Connecticut. It was a lawyer for the Ramseys, "saying, 'I hope we will not have to meet in court.' "
Says Dunne, "I'm allowed to have an opinion. I called him back and said, 'Listen, don't ever call me in that tone of voice again, like I'm quivering with fear. I'm not.' " </i?
Here is the bit from Larry King Live 6/26/2001:
KING: What do you make of this JonBenet Ramsey thing?
DUNNE: Well, you know, I have never written about this, and -- because so many writers already on it, so I never did. But I'm still fascinated by that story.
And, you know, I work with victims in my private life, and I'm on the national -- I'm on the board of the National Victims Center, and so forth, and so on, and go to candlelight vigils for victims and occasionally see parents who have lost a child, to talk to them. And nobody I have ever talked to or seen who lost a child to homicide has behaved like Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey did. I mean, the hiring the PR person, hiring their own lawyers...
KING: So, you suspect?
DUNNE: What I suspect is they know more than what they are saying.
KING: We had maybe one of the most incredible shows I ever did was having the detective on with them who accused her...
DUNNE: I saw the show.
KING: That was...
DUNNE: One of the great shows.
KING: Unbelievable.
DUNNE: Yeah.
KING: So you -- will there ever be an arrest?
DUNNE: It doesn't look like that. It doesn't look like that. But you know what? I don't think they are having a great life either.

And on a later show - Aired May 20, 2002
CALLER: Yes, hello, thank you. I'd like to know Mr.
Dunne, what you think actually happened in the Jon Benet
Ramsey case? And I'd also like to know how good or
accurate, do you think the tabloids are at investigating these
types of cases?
DUNNE:...Now, the other half was -- oh, the Jon Benet Ramsey. Now
look, this is what I feel about that. Again, it's like a Skakel
thing, there is privilege in being involved in the Jon Benet
Ramsey thing. When that case went before the grand jury in
Boulder, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey, who were in effect the chief
suspects in that case, were allowed to on, on video tape, so
that the grand jury never actually saw them, and I think it's
so important to see the body language and everything. I
don't think they should have been in control of that. I can't
tell you who actually did it, but certainly in every interview
that I've watched, with Katie Couric and Barbara Walters,
when they've been on -- they know more than what they're
saying. And I -- you know, they're kind of stuck with each
other for life too.

I would point out to Mr. Dunne that he is uneducated or misinformed about what happened in the Ramsey case. John and Patsy would have preferred to have addressed the grand jury themselves but they were not called by Mike Kane.
Also, I would tell Mr. Dunne that Steve Thomas was sued for his book and did NOT defend his position in court but settled.
Should Dunne fear being sued? Yeah, I think so. Lin Wood doesn't seem to have a lot of patience with people who spread misinformation about his clients.

He is a national figure and his false statement
about not appearing before the grand jury is
very damaging to the Ramseys. Dunne should either
make public apology or be sued. That was uncalled for.
