We all think when we hear of a little girl having been kidnapped that it is for sex, not ransom, and that the pervert is going to kill her to be rid of the witness. Perhaps he will also enjoy it, perhaps not, but he will do it.

In JonBenet's case, I don't think she was killed to 'get rid of the witness' but that the killing was not just central to the crime it was the primary purpose and everything else was mere 'icing on the cake' or trappings added more as a condiment than as an ingredient.

The stun gun may or may not have been necessary, once she was trundled up in the bed while sleeping, but it may well have been fun for him. Once she was in the basement I'm sure there was more fun with the stun gun. Prolonged fun. Then there was some fun with the garotte. Prolonged fun. Tiny little fingers clawing at her throat. Watching that was fun for him. The crying and the pain were part of the fun. Ofcourse there was a struggle. Thats what he wanted.

The note caused hours of endless anguish for the parents as they waited for the phone to ring and fought the imagined horrors of what might be happening to her.

That short, insubstantial and utterly unnecessary piece of duct tape over her mouth was solely to convince the rescuer that she was alive when they found her, so that once again their hopes could be cruely dashed when they realized their ultimate horror.

This whole crime was fun for him.
So you ask about a struggle? Well ofcourse there was a struggle. Thats the fun part.

Was this crime committed by a pedophile?
I don't know. But I do know that it was committed by a sadist.
