I think the guy knew what he was doing in that department---I don't necessarily think murder was the intent in the beginning. However, it is possible the crime was done in retaliation against JR for some perceived injury. Aspects of the crime show anger-retaliation--just difficult, IMO, to determine who the anger was directed at, or where it came from.
