William 'Bill' McReynolds, 72 Journalism professor; veteran; active with Mashpee seniors MASHPEE - William "Bill" McReynolds, 72, a resident of Mashpee, died Monday. He was the husband of Janet (Beallew) McReynolds of Mashpee. Mr. McReynolds was born in Donna, Texas. He earned a master's degree in journalism at the University of Texas in Austin and a doctorate degree in American studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He served two years in the Army, from 1953 to 1956. Mr. McReynolds taught journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1968 until his retirement in 1992. He also taught at the University of Texas from 1959 to 1965 and at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1984. He and his wife moved to Mashpee in 1998. He worked as an assistant to the outreach coordinator at the Mashpee Senior Center. He was active in the Mashpee Singing Seniors and the Mashpee Men's Club. He loved early morning walks on South Cape Beach, reading the New York Times and playing Scrabble. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Jesse McReynolds of Nederland, Colo., and Tristan McReynolds of New York City; a daughter, Jill Leffingwell of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; four grandsons; and two granddaughters. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills. Burial is private.
