Girl Nearly Abducted While In Her Garage
Douglas County Detectives Searching For Suspect
MDT May 29, 2002
DENVER -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is searching for
a suspect who allegedly attempted to kidnap a young girl in Highlands
Ranch.
The incident occurred last week in
the Southridge section of Highlands
Ranch.
An 8-year-old girl told police a man
grabbed her arm and tried to pull
her to a waiting car.
The girl and her mother had just
returned home from shopping when
she went back to her mother's car, which was parked in the open garage,
to retrieve her mother's purse.
While in the driver's seat of the vehicle, the girl noticed a small gray car
slowly pulling up in front of the house and an older man walking up the
driveway, Douglas County Sheriff's detectives said.
When the man walked in the garage, the girl got scared and tried to close
the car door, but he grabbed the car door and held it open, detectives
said.
The suspect then grabbed her right arm and tried to pull her out of the
car and the garage. She screamed for her mother, but the suspect
grabbed her leg, the girl said.
She managed to pull away, and the man started to run down the
driveway. But the girl told detectives that he had a limp, and could not
run very fast.
The suspect got into his vehicle, described as an older gray Honda, and
sped away.
The girl's mother came out of the house in time to see an older gray car
leaving her driveway and turning east onto Wildcat Reserve Parkway.
The suspect is described as white man about 50-years-old, just over 6
feet tall, with gray hair and a short gray beard.
He was possibly wearing a teal green or blue short-sleeve shirt.
If you have any information that could help investigators, call the Douglas
County Sheriff's Department at (303) 660-7579 or (303) 660-7548.
<a href="http://www.kmgh.com/den/news/stories/news-148367120020528-140554.html";>http://www.kmgh.com/den/news/stories/news-148367120020528-140554.html<;/a>
