Amber alert cancelled, Urbana teen found safe

May 20, 2003 — An amber alert is over for a girl who disappeared on Sunday. 14-year-old Tyeeste Jones who is from Urbana was last seen on Sunday.
Police tell ABC7 News that about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, she was found in Chicago. Police say she appears to be okay-- and plans are being made to take her back home to Urbana.

So far no one's been arrested.

Within hours of the girl's disappearance, an Amber Alert was posted on electronic signs over the interstate highways and broadcast over the air.

Urbana police said that Tyeeste recently told authorities that a man between the ages of 25 and 35--driving a black or green convertible--had tried to abduct her once before. The teenager did sell some clothing to a thrift shop earlier Sunday, and her brother conceded Tyeeste may have run away:

Rosario learned about the Amber Alert when police met him at his Northwest Side home. Tyeeste's family is just relieved that she's safe.
