I agree that the new atypical meds prevent relapse of a psychosis in most cases. And, when one occurs, there should be a complete evaluation and treatment as well as therapy and counseling. During the recovery period, anyone would definitely need help in caring for themselves and their children.I do have to say that in the case of the Texas mother killing her five children, I DO hold her husband and those around her responsible. A psychotic episode does not just begin overnight. There usually is a period of time (the prodrome) that should have been easily distinguished by those around her on a regular basis. I, for one, do not believe she should be in prison.
