need to be tested....men tend to leave cigarettes hanging out of their mouths, so there could be a lot of saliva on those butts...."if" one or two came from the perp, and he was a smoker. I doubt, though, they were bagged, and noted on any kind of a grid. However, from what I recall, they were bagged with leaves. Now...that yard probably contained a lot of leaves...so there may be a reason why that particular debris was taken....perhaps close to the window well....or from the window well. Cigarette butts are one thing an amateur wouldn't think of, that could reveal DNA. He may have carelessly tossed it. If perchance they can match the markers, they might get a complete set from the butt...and on visual inspection, some may look fresher than the others.
