12:20 p.m., PST: REDWOOD CITY - Hair taken off duct tape found on Laci Peterson's decomposed remains does not match her husband's, his defense attorney said in court today while relaying a series of allegedly new information contained in prosecution documents turned over Tuesday to the defense.
"I've got pages on pages of hair comparison that are very detailed that exclude my client at every single point," attorney Mark Geragos said, charging that prosecutors this week turned over about 800 pages of documents from the state Department of Justice and the FBI containing information that could help his client.

"Hair was taken off duct tape that excludes my client," Geragos said, referring to tape found with Laci Peterson's remains in April after her body washed ashore in San Francisco Bay.

Five stains in Peterson's boat that police thought were blood turned out to be something else, according to Geragos.

Defense: Prosecution holding back reports that could clear Scott Peterson

By Brian Anderson

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

REDWOOD CITY - As many as 10 people could be responsible for or have information about the killing of Laci Peterson, a defense attorney charged today, saying prosecutors failed to provide reports that will help clear her husband.

In a passionate plea for Judge Al Delucchi to intervene, Mark Geragos said he had not received information relating to witness interviews as well as suspected blood stains pulled from Scott Peterson's boat.

Someone has even taken responsibility for the Dec. 23 or Dec. 24 slaying, Geragos said, pointing out that he had not received all the information related to the revelation.

For the first time in many months, Geragos went into further detail on what he said he believed cleared his client.

He cited dramatic evidence revolving around five stains in Peterson's boat that police had suspected were blood. But laboratory tests conducted as late as December showed that the stains were not human blood, Geragos said.

He also said investigators examined hair samples pulled from duct tape detectives had thought were related to the case. The samples, however, did not belong to Laci or Scott Peterson, Geragos said.

"They have report after report after report of investigations that were taking place in December," Geragos said. "These items are negative for my client. I've got pages upon pages of hair comparisons that exclude my client at every single point."

Imo, if hair found with Laci's body does not match Scott or Laci the prosecution has some serious problems with their case against Scott.

Also, somebody else allegedly claimed responsibility for the murder?
Why haven't we heard about this before?

If the prosecution has been delaying the revelation of evidence that is exculpatory to Scott then they are not seeking the truth or justice, they are lying to the public and the media. That is terrible!!!

kind of like the mysterious print in Danielle van Dam's room that didn't belong to David Westerfield...

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

The hair could have been picked up on the beach.

I agree with J_S it could cause a problem for the prosecution. Rememeber Mark will be trying to put reasonable doubt in their minds.
