"Laci's Vehicle..."

LAST EDITED ON Oct-01-03 AT 03:56 PM (EST)

I have to wonder...

They said that Scott tried to hire someone to steal Laci's Land Rover, then... shortly after Laci is missing, he is all in a hurry to get rid of it... why is that? Is there some connection to something that he did in her vehicle that he wanted it stolen?

Is there any coincidence to him wanting it stolen, and then getting rid of it shortly after Laci is missing?

Several scenerios have been circulating around...

The possibility of another crime or crimes commited by Scott prior to Laci's disappearance/death?

If that is possible, is it possible that those supposed crimes could have been commited while in Laci's vehicle and that is why he wanted it to disappear?

NOTE: I am not accusing Scott Peterson of any crimes, I am merely trying to see if there is ANY connection to the report of him wanting to have her vehicle stolen and the fact that he traded or sold her vehicle shortly after her "disappearance".

People of the forum I would like welcome PI_J to the forum.
I met and spoke with PI J last week and we discussed evidence in the Butts triple murders. With out giveing out to much information on PI J I can tell you she has a degree in science and has worked as a crime scene technician for many years. She is very knowledgable about dna testing and trace evidence.
She will be a valuble asset to the forum.

Momof6, that's an interesting theory to toss out for discussion!

Wasn't there someone on this forum who thought possibly Scott may have been involved in drugs- or that Laci's disappearance/murder may have been drug-related? And then that her body was dumped deliberately in Scott's alibi spot?

Who was that- and why did they think that to begin with? Just a theory off the top of their head- or did they have a specific reason- related to evidence?

mom, good post, i agree that SP and the vehicles in his life, Laci's in particular, did have some prominance in the media.

OTOH, i can't imagine driving my missing preg. wife's vehicle around if i had another option, particularly if she no longer wanted it, and considering the financial loss of the truck that was in police custody. i'm curiious if there was an alterior motive behind trading in (or getting rid of) the Land Rover?

was a van mentioned in the recent kidnap alegations? i seem to recall reading about a van in some of the earlier media coverage. but the description seemed to be a little off and i wasn't sure if there were 2 different vans or not. both described as older models, but the colors ranging from gold copper and tan, sometimes described with stripes down the side or something. anyone else?

I wonder if Scott realized that he could probably have gotten more for the Land Rover by simply trading it in than he would have gotten if he had to claim it stolen. (I'm talking prior to Laci's disappearance, I do realize that he eventually traded it in.)

Typically you can negotiate with the dealer a trade-in price, but with a stolen vehicle you just get the blue book value. I have found the blue book to be, very often, less than the trade-in value.

The car that I own right now has a blue book value of about $6000. I have recently been offered $11,000 for trade-in. That is a significant difference.

It sure does seem that he had some adversion to that particular vehicle.... but maybe not....

   Mila,

Regarding him getting rid of her vehicle... she hadn't been missing all that long, and to get rid of her car, let alone ask a realtor about selling the house.

That was HER vehicle, and the only people that have said that Laci felt it unsafe, was Scott's parents or family. Laci's family said that she loved that vehicle, that is why the dealer made sure they got it.

The coincidence is uncanny, in my opinion, that he (if he did) tried to arrange to have that vehicle stolen, and then after Laci is reported missing, get rid of the vehicle rather quickly.

We discussed this earlier this year.

Laci was reported missing 12/24.

Land Rover reported to have been traded in 2/5.

Scott had been driving rentals. It became no longer possible for him to afford. What was he expected to do? I'm sure that some of the chemicals that he hauls would have been unsafe in an enclosed vehicle.

There comes a time when real life kicks back in and you have to continue to earn a living. I'm not saying that he didn't have some other motive, but needing a vehicle for work does sound very resonable to me.
