Scott Peterson and Amber Frey exchanged at least 37 telephone calls in the four weeks after her Jan. 24 televised news conference.

I bet police got an ear full. We knew this was going on very early on in the investigation. I can't beleave old Scott would still be talking to Amber when we were discussing him being recorded on the forum in that same time period.

I bet that they didn't hear anything. I bet that he denied any involvement to Amber. I bet her conversations with LE were to coach her in what to say and how to say it.

Either he is not involved, he has himself convinced that he's not responsible, or he did an awesome job of lying. I can't see any other reason why there wasn't an arrest until almost 2 months after the conversations stopped if he said anything incriminating.

I heard that he was ready to take a lie detector test. One of Amber's phone calls was to a retired detective, I believe it was the same one that did Carroll's test. MPD was trying to get involved, I wonder if Scott suspected that they may try to set him up and backed out. He had to know by then that they were tracking and investigating his every move.

That's what i thought, too, Countrygirl- maybe ol' Amber was trying to get him to take a polygraph.....either of her own volition or by request of MPD...

Interesting, to be sure, but not of much use at this point...

Frey, family shared feelings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By GARTH STAPLEY
and JOHN COTÉ

As observers across the world earlier this year waited for word on the missing Laci Peterson, secret, emotional bonds apparently developed between her loved ones and her husband's lover.

Amber Frey, who emerged Jan. 24 with a bombshell revelation of her romance with Scott Peterson, the next day began calling friends and family of Laci Peterson, according to partial telephone records.

By March 14, Frey had reached out 53 times to people close to Laci Peterson, totaling nearly 6 1/2 hours of telephone time.

Well-placed sources say Frey hoped to assure Laci's loved ones that Frey did not know that Scott Peterson was married when they began dating Nov. 20. Frey also shared with them her hope, sources say, that the missing pregnant woman and her baby would be found safe.

It was not to be. The bodies of mother and son were recovered in mid-April along the shore of San Francisco Bay.

Peterson, 30, has pleaded not guilty to double-murder charges. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Peterson talked with Frey in February about him taking a lie-detector test, according to two sources. The phone records show that Frey called a respected polygrapher in Fresno, but the test never occurred, sources said.

Frey, a 28-year-old Fresno massage therapist, continued talking with Peterson for almost four weeks after she publicly acknowledged their romance, phone records reveal.

She appeared at the same time to have a direct line to authorities, who were secretly wiretapping Peterson's phones. Frey reported to her police handler immediately following many of her conversations with Peterson, the records show.

"I hand it to Amber for doing the right thing," said Ron Grantski, Laci Peterson's stepfather.

Most of the people connected to Laci Peterson who were called by Frey declined to comment. Grantski said they do not want to violate a court-imposed gag order preventing potential witnesses from discussing the case.

Frey did not return calls seeking comment.

Grantski indicated that some of the conversations with Frey included details of the investigation.

"A lot of it does pertain to the case," Grantski said. "It'll all come out in court; at least I hope it will."

Grantski declined to comment further.

More than half of Frey's phone time with Laci Peterson's family and associates was spent with Lori Ellsworth, a close friend of the then-missing woman. She spoke with Frey at least 20 times totaling nearly 3 1/2 hours, phone records show.

Ellsworth declined to comment.

Expert sees emotion behind calls

Frey dialed three phones used by Laci Peterson's brother, Brent Rocha, nine times over the six-week period. She called Laci's sister, Amy Rocha, twice in February.

Frey called the home number of Grantski and Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, twice, and dialed Rocha's cell phone twice, once talking for 22 minutes.

That conversation occurred on Feb. 4, the day that the court order for the first wiretap on Peterson's phones ended.

It also was the day that a car dealer returned Laci Peterson's Land Rover to her family. Her husband had traded it in toward a pickup the week before.

Phone records show that Frey additionally called Rene Tomlinson, another friend from Laci's youth. And, she called the Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation and the cell phone of its executive director, Kim Petersen.

Kim Petersen has served as a spokeswoman for Laci Peterson's family. She said authorities notified her that she, too, may be called to testify at court proceedings.

A legal scholar said Frey may have connected with Laci Peterson's loved ones because all perceived themselves as having a common enemy: Scott Peterson.

"It would be easy for (Laci Peterson's friends and family) to say, 'See, he victimizes others, too,'" said Jeanette Sereno, an attorney and criminal justice professor at California State University, Stanislaus.

Sereno said it is not surprising that some of the conversations, according to phone records, were lengthy. For example, Frey and Ellsworth appear to have spoken for 90 minutes on Jan. 28, the day that Peterson, in a nationally televised interview, admitted his affair with Frey.

"They're talking about emotional things," Sereno said. "Both sides have a lot to say. It's not a business call."

Ruth Jones, a criminal law professor at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and a former prosecutor, said that without knowing what was said, the calls between the family of a missing woman and the "other woman" appear odd.

"Maybe I'm cut from a harder cloth," Jones said. "My friend, daughter or sister is missing, maybe dead, and you're the (woman) her husband is sleeping with; I don't want to chat on the phone with you."

More important in a legal sense is how an important witness's credibility might be affected if she shared sensitive information with the victim's family, Jones and Sereno agreed.

"For a key witness, credibility is always the issue -- always, always, always," Jones said. "Jurors are given the task of interpreting what people did and what it meant."

Sereno said defense lawyers might be expected to question whether any bias by Laci Peterson's family could have worn off on Frey, perhaps unintentionally. Prosecutors, on the other hand, will want Frey "to look like a victim, not a temptress," Sereno said.

Calls to Peterson were numerous

During the same period that Frey called Laci Peterson's loved ones, she also was busy on the phone with her former boyfriend. Records show that she exchanged at least 76 calls with him over nine turbulent weeks that started nine days before Laci Peterson's disappearance.

The calls between Frey and Scott Peterson stretched through the holidays, her birthday and the due date for Peterson's son before apparently ending Feb. 19 -- 15 days after investigators stopped bugging his phones.

Frey first called Modesto police at 1:43 a.m. Dec. 30. She would call authorities more than 200 times in the next six weeks, totaling more than 20 hours of conversation.

Prosecutors might have hoped to induce Peterson into making damaging statements that the wiretaps would pick up, Assistant San Francisco District Attorney James Hammer has said.

On Feb. 1, Frey called one of Laci Peterson's friends -- Ellsworth -- and Scott Peterson nine times for a total of 91 minutes, and dialed her police handler, Detective Jon Buehler, 19 times on calls that lasted a total of 61 minutes.

That was the day that Frey explored arranging a lie-detector test for Peterson, according to sources. They said Peterson apparently offered to submit to a polygraph, but that the plan never materialized.

Phone records from that same day show that Frey twice called Melvin King, a former Fresno police lieutenant who operates a polygraph and private investigation service. King has refused to discuss the calls.

I think it's interesting to note that although she called Scott 76 times in that nine week period (beginning 9 days before Laci disappeared), she spoke to AUTHORITIES more than 200 times in a six- week period beginning Dec 30.

She was more interested in talking to authorities, apparently.

Fox news is reporting Scott called Amber after Laci went missing. Telling her how much he loved her and how he wanted to have a family with her.
That's what I call a close call Amber.

I remember from the Westerfield case that they were able to tell almost exactly where he was all weekend from the cell phone calls. As much time as Scott spent on the phone, I bet they can tell his moves almost from hour to hour.

Actually, I had heard that Scott told Amber that if they got married, he didn't want any children (other than her daughter). And that he told her this BEFORE Laci went missing.

Who knows what this liar told her......we know he told her he had "lost" his wife the previous Christmas (interesting use of words, huh?)

OOPS- I stand corrected, Sam- I see now what you are refering to:

Peterson Phone Logs Shed New Light on Affair

Wednesday, October 15, 2003

Newly released phone records belonging to accused double murderer Scott Peterson (search) offer a very different account of his extramarital relationship than what his lawyers and family have discussed publicly, Fox News has learned.

Though Peterson's defense team and family have suggested that 28-year-old massage therapist Amber Frey (search) was a temptress who doggedly pursued him, the records show Peterson called Frey hundreds of times, even after his wife Laci had been reported missing, sources close to the case told Fox.

Peterson, a former Modesto fertilizer salesman, phoned Frey twice as often as she phoned him and sometimes dozens of times in one day, the records show. The pair frequently spoke until 2 or 3 in the morning.

Laci Peterson (search), 27, was almost eight months pregnant when she was reported missing Christmas Eve, 2002. Both her body, badly decomposed, and that of her unborn son were found in April 2003 along the eastern shoreline of San Francisco Bay.

Scott Peterson, 30, has been jailed without bail since his arrest in April. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 20, though The Modesto Bee reported Saturday that his defense team was looking to postpone it again.

Prosecutors believe Frey was Peterson's motive for killing his pregnant wife. Authorities have offered extra security for Frey during the preliminary hearing.

Peterson has publicly claimed he never loved Frey, but that isn't what he told her privately, according to sources.

On Jan. 6, 2003, after Frey had already begun cooperating with police and prodding Peterson for information, he called her at 11:27 p.m., Fox News has learned. The two talked for 98 minutes.

During that conversation, Peterson told Frey that he was the married man in the news whose wife had disappeared. Peterson said he'd never lie to her again and that he loved her, sources told Fox.

On Jan. 7, she called him at 4:13 p.m. and they spoke for 100 minutes. Peterson again told Frey he loved her and said he wanted to have a family with her, according to sources' accounts of the taped conversations.

On Jan. 25, one day after Frey went public with the affair, Peterson called her at 3:23 p.m. and told her he understood why she'd come forward, the sources told Fox.

According to the phone records, Peterson called Frey again at 7:33 p.m. Jan. 28, saying he loved her and wanted to spend his life with her.

In fact, there were so many calls between Peterson and Frey that police stopped the wiretaps because they had more than enough tape.

Frey and the phone conversations are expected to be centerpieces of the prosecution's case.

Earlier this month, Peterson's lawyers asked the judge to exclude strands of hair and other pieces of evidence from the trial, according to documents filed at Stanislaus County Superior Court.

Police found a single hair in a pair of pliers at the bottom of Peterson's boat during a Dec. 27 search, according to the defense documents. DNA tests have shown the hair might be Laci's, according to The Modesto Bee.

But in February, Detectives Al Brocchini and Dodge Hendee "spontaneously decided to review" that piece of evidence and reported finding a second strand of hair, defense attorney Mark Geragos wrote in the documents.

The two hairs were submitted to a state Department of Justice crime lab the next day along with a pair of Laci's hairbrushes, according to the defense documents. Geragos contended that the DNA tests used are unreliable and the detectives shouldn't have examined the evidence alone.

The defense also is seeking to exclude testimony from a hypnotized neighbor and evidence from tracker dogs and tracking devices hidden in vehicles Peterson owned, rented or borrowed from family members on the grounds that tracking evidence is also unreliable.

Fox News' Rita Cosby, Catherine Donaldson-Evans and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

But he loved her so much and wanted to have a family.
Is this the same guy in jail charged with killing his wife Laci and unborn viable son.
Is this the man who may have dumped them in the ocean?
Is this the man who is calling Amber telling her how much he loves her while his pregnant wife and child are missing?
Is this the man who's family is fighting tooth and nail for him.
I would like to ask the Peterson family one question? What about your grandson Connor !!!
There called sociopaths and your seeing a good example of one. They don't care anything about anyone except themselves.
What kind of people help protect these scum bags?
What kind of people will attack and bash Sam fighting for justice against these scum bags.
I've been attacked on Butts, Ward Weaver and Scott Peterson.
2 DOWN AND ONE TO GO BUT WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE DEFEND THESE NO COUNT SCUM BAGS. YA'LL HAVE WITNESSED IT RIGHT HERE ON JAMESON'S WEB SLEUTHS.
BLOOMING IDIOTS THAT'S WHAT KIND !!!

We all have heard that in one of the conversations with Amber, it is said that you can hear Amber ask if he had anything to do with Laci's disappearance, and we have been told by sources, that Scott's reply was no, but I know who did, and I will tell you the next time we get together or see each other....

Last night, on one of the news channels, they were going over some of the Peterson "evidence" and they said that it was leaked that the reply was not that simple, the actual conversation was that Scott initially said, "Yes, ahhhh no, but I know who did."

It was also mentioned last night that Cadeaver dogs picked up her scent in the location that the sonar found the body. I had never heard that the dog had gotten the scent off the water, I thought it was the beach area. But they were saying it was out over the water that the scent was picked up.

Did anyone else see this program? It was on around 11 pm est. I believe it was Fox.

wow...now assumming the report is correct, and the dog found scent over where the sonar detected something, couldn't they do it again? Laci's missing limbs and head may still be there. Or would it have been way too long now to detect anything?

What body? The bodies were found by private citizens.
News channel reporting that cadeavor dogs can scent a body hundreds of feet below the surface of the water including salt water ? BS ! Bring those smart dogs on! Prove it, find body parts of Laci and Evelyn Hernandez and so many others!

I think what momof6 was saying was that it was reported that sonar picked up what was believed to have been Laci's body in the water. I remember reading it here myself but not sure if it was actually confirmed or rumor. Supposedly sonar found smething but the weather and water conditions kept divers from retrieving it. Right momof6?

Anyway, we'll know soon enough......

edited to add that i was talking abut the sonar location part of the paragraph.

If her body were in 6 to 8 feet of water, as some reports have suggested, couldn't the dogs possibly smell the gasses caused by decomposition floating to the surface?

Yes, I was saying that the dogs scented off the water. In the exact location that later, sonar detected what appeared to be "Laci's body".

I was not talking about dogs finding them on the beach.

It has been reported that cadeaver dogs can and do detect under water from above.

However, it is not a common occurance and is often a longshot.
