"Scott's Neo-Nazi Friends"

I heard a news blurb on the radio yesterday. It said there was a new development in the Laci Peterson case, that Scott Peterson had some connection with Neo-Nazi's. The announcement said more details would be given later. I never heard the details. Did anyone else? Did I hear right?

Peterson Family Disputes Kidnap Plot Report

Monday , September 22, 2003

The family of Scott Peterson (search) has disputed an inmate’s claims that the accused killer plotted the kidnapping of his pregnant wife weeks before she disappeared.

Janey Peterson told Fox News that she was with Scott Peterson and his wife, Laci, in San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 29, the day Cory Lee Carroll claimed he met with her brother-in-law in Fresno. The meeting was detailed in a report published Saturday by the Fresno Bee.

Carroll, a parolee jailed since August after missing a court date, told investigators that he first met Scott Peterson last November at the City Lights strip club in Fresno. After a conversation in which Carroll revealed he had been in prison, Peterson asked for help in finding someone to steal his wife’s car as part of an insurance fraud scheme, according to the Bee report.

Carroll told investigators that he was paid $300 to set up a meeting with two men known as Tony, aka “Dirty,” and Anthony, aka “Skeeter.” The men were both members of a neo-Nazi prison gang known as the Nazi Low Riders (search).

Carroll claimed he and the two men met with Peterson in a northeast Fresno restaurant on Nov. 29. The four went on to a nearby motel where the subject of a kidnapping plot came up, the Bee reported.

But Janey Peterson claims she, her husband, and Scott and Laci Peterson (search) were together in San Diego Nov. 29, two days after a baby shower had been held there for the pregnant 27-year-old.

Calling Carroll’s claims in the Bee report “all lies,” she told Fox News that it would have been impossible for Scott Peterson to have left San Diego midday, driven more than seven hours to Modesto, dropped his wife and presents off at their home, then have driven another hour-plus to Fresno for the alleged meeting. Peterson said she was trying to confirm the exact time Scott and Laci Peterson left San Diego that day.

Carroll’s attorney, Frank Muna, told Fox News that his client disclosed his story only after recognizing Scott Peterson on television after his April arrest for the murders of Laci Peterson and their unborn child, Conner. Muna said he notified law enforcement after his client passed a polygraph test administered by a former Fresno police lieutenant.

Polygraph examinations are not admissible in court. However, a memo summarizing the test obtained by the Bee shows Carroll correctly identified the model of Peterson’s Ford F-150 pickup. In addition, the van like the one Dirty and Skeeter owned was described by a witness as having been across the street from Laci Peterson’s home the day of her Dec. 24 disappearance. Police have since played down reports of a so-called suspicious van.

Carroll said he walked out of the Nov. 29 meeting for 45 minutes once he heard one of the three men say something about kidnapping. His attorney told Fox News that his client had nothing to gain by coming forward, and hinted that his life may now be in danger as a result.

Investigators would not comment on Carroll’s claims to the Bee due to a court-imposed gag order.

The Modesto Bee reported that police divers returned to San Francisco Bay on Friday, where the bodies of Laci and Conner Peterson were discovered ashore in April. A preliminary hearing for Scott Peterson is scheduled for Oct. 20, after a judge granted a six-week continuance earlier this month at the defense’s request.

Fox News' Rita Cosby contributed to this report.

Peterson talked of a kidnap, witness says
Fresno jail inmate gives account during lie detector test.
By Michael Baker
The Fresno Bee
(Published Saturday, September 20, 2003, 4:15 AM)

A Fresno County Jail inmate says accused murderer Scott Peterson broached the idea of kidnapping his wife while meeting with two members of a neo-Nazi gang about a month before a pregnant Laci Peterson disappeared.
Cory Lee Carroll, 34, was interviewed in jail this week by investigators from the Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office, said Carroll's attorney, Frank Muna.

Muna said he contacted law enforcement after Carroll's account checked out in a polygraph test administered by Muna's private investigator.

Modesto police spokesman Lt. Doug Ridenour said a court-imposed gag order prevents him from speaking about Peterson's case, but in general, it is the duty of law enforcement to follow up on all leads.

"It doesn't matter where or what time; if it has a potential connection to a case we're going to investigate it."

The Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office did not respond to inquiries but has in the past referred to the gag order when questioned about potential evidence.

Peterson's lead attorney, Mark Geragos, also cited the gag order.

"Unfortunately, I can't comment," Geragos said. "I would love to, but unfortunately, I can't."

Peterson, 30, has pleaded innocent to two counts of murder that could bring the death penalty. His next court date is his preliminary hearing, set for Oct. 20, to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial.

Prosecutors allege he killed his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son on Christmas Eve. Their remains washed up in April on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay.

Carroll's statement is detailed in a memo that summarizes the polygraph exam. The memo, obtained by The Bee on Friday, was written by polygraph examiner and private investigator Melvin W. King, a former Fresno police lieutenant.

Carroll truthfully answered questions during the examination, according to the memo. Polygraph, or lie detector, tests are not admissable in court.

While he questioned how the memo was leaked, Muna said it is identical to the document he received from King.

According to the memo, Carroll gave King this statement:

He met Peterson in November at the east-central Fresno strip club City Lights on Clovis Avenue. The two men watched strippers, talked and played pool before heading to a nearby bar and then a fast-food restaurant.

Peterson, who had discovered Carroll had spent time in prison, asked if Carroll knew anyone who could steal his wife's car. Peterson wanted to report the vehicle stolen for insurance purposes.

Peterson agreed to pay Carroll $300 to set up a meeting with two men Carroll knows as Tony, who goes by the name "Dirty," and Anthony, also known as "Skeeter." The pair, who often live in a beige van with orange and red stripes, are members of the Nazi Low Riders gang.

Peterson met with Carroll and the other two men Nov. 29 at Chili's Grill & Bar in northeast Fresno. The four men went to a nearby motel to continue talking.

Peterson drove a Ford F-150 pickup.

Carroll overheard something about kidnapping and left because he didn't want to get involved. He stayed away about 45 minutes. When he returned, the two neo-Nazi gang members said they were going to take care of something. Carroll said he didn't want to hear anything about it.

In December, Carroll was arrested for violating parole after a conviction for receiving stolen property, records from the California Department of Corrections show.

Carroll said he recognized Peterson later when he saw him on a television report about the Modesto man's arrest.

According to the polygraph report, these questions and answers were given during the examination:

Question: "Have you lied to me about anything during our interview?"

Answer: "No."

Q: "Did you lie when you said you introduced Dirty and Skeeter to Scott Peterson?"

A: "No."

Q: "Did you lie when you said you heard Scott Peterson mention to Dirty and Skeeter something about kidnapping Laci?"

A: "No."

"Mr. Carroll appears to believe his statement about meeting Scott Peterson and introducing him to Tony and Anthony also known as Dirty and Skeeter," the report concludes, while suggesting a second polygraph outside jail if there is further investigation into Carroll's claims.

"I can't confirm or deny anything," King said when asked about the report. "It's been made very clear to me -- I'm under a gag order."

A few things in Carroll's statement match what has been reported in the media.

Peterson owned a Ford F-150 truck, which police took into their possession. And a van similar to the one Carroll said Dirty and Skeeter owned has been described by a witness as being across the street from Laci Peterson's home the day she disappeared. Police have discounted reports of a suspicious van in the neighborhood, saying it belonged to landscapers.

Muna defended his client's statements, saying Carroll had nothing to gain by coming forward. "We've never asked for anything, and we don't plan to," Muna said. "This puts my client in a lot of danger."

Muna said Carroll has been attacked twice since he was released from prison in July. The last time, the attackers told him to keep his mouth shut, Muna said. Muna said he didn't know who the attackers were.

Carroll was arrested Aug. 1 after missing a court date for driving with a suspended license. He is being held without bail because he is on parole.

Modesto Bee staff writer John Cote contributed to this report. The reporter can be reached at mbaker@fresnobee.com or 441-6465.

This is interesting news....could this be related to Scott renting a mailbox the day before Laci disappeared?

IMO, these recent articles on Scott's association with "less-than-honorable" characters is completely plausible. From the beginning, I suspected Scott's employment as a 'fertilizer salesman' and perhaps dr_gs or dr_g use were involved with Laci's disappearance.

How could Laci have been married to such a guy and not know it?????

It was reported that police divers went back to the bay? This isn't the first time. I wonder if they have found anything?

Anyway, interesting articles, thanks to those who posted them.

6. "Kidnapped"
In response to message #5

You know, this story does tie a lot of loose ends together. If in fact Scott did meet with these men to discuss stealing Laci's car and/or kidnapping her, it would answer some questions.

1) "I didn't do it but I know who did." (Scott could have paid them to kidnap her or they decided to do it anyway and ask for a ransom after he said "Never Mind").

2) Geragos said he would prove Scott "factually" did not do it. Maybe Scott wanted them to steal the car and they decided to kidnap Laci with out his approval.

3) Why Scott acted so strange - he wasn't only hiding his affair with Amber - he was also hiding his meeting with the criminals.

4) He gave an alibi of going fishing in the Bay because Laci was suppose to be taken and hid somewhere else. When Laci died at the hand of the criminals they decided to dump her where Scott said he was going to be, framing him.

5) He wanted them to kidnap Laci, have his in-laws pay the ransom, because he was broke, have Laci rescued, and later collect his share. No harm done.

6) Explains the tan van seen in the neighborhood.

7) Explains why Scott said "Laci's missing" first thing.

It sure would explain a lot of things.

The major one being his response, "I didn't, but I know who did."

We have to remember the life insurance policy as well...

8. "Laci's Vehicle"
In response to message #7

Keyo, your #2 response seems plausible. It wouldn't be the first time a vehicle, arranged by the owner, was hoisted, stripped and set on fire for the insurance,i.e. a new vehicle. Happens all the time and that is yet another reason that WE the the honest public pay high insurance premiums.

Lee and Jackie Peterson visited Scott and Laci the week before Laci went missing. They took a trip together to Carmel, CA.(according to news reports) During that trip, there was conversation about a new and different vehicle which would be safer for Laci and the baby.

And...however I could care less about the polygraph and the administrator of such of a known jail bird. Carroll must have been lying his entire life and familiar with polygraph testing. In plain words, ' he knows the ropes'.

ALSO: The meeting that was supposedly take place by Carroll's arrangement timeline is OFF, according to the Peterson family...there was no meeting on that day with Carroll's friends. Scott and Laci were in SanDiego.

Journalists are fighting the bottom of the barrel for a story and we have now heard from two ugly incarcerated criminals, including Laci's high school boyfriend who is imprisoned for shooting his own girlfriend. Are we so weak we listen up to such garbage...hmmmm

LadyBug: I certainly have been willing to give Scott every benefit of doubt; however, I think that every inch of every shred of gossip, talk, or information in general should be investigated thoroughly. If this were an inmate who had some information pertinent to the Ramsey case, we all would be screaming for an in-depth look at what he had to say. Thus, if he can offer any conclusive evidence that what he has said is true, I think his information is definitely valuable to the case. It works both ways. If his information should help to clear Scott, then go on and look into it. Either way, since what he has said makes a connection with what we know, it should be considered in good faith until proven otherwise.

I agree with mBm....I'm not saying this guy is 100%- after all, he's a known criminal. But if we NEVER took a criminal's word, then alot of cases would go unsolved. I always look at whether someone has anything to gain by coming forward. Now, we never know for sure, but on the surface it seems this guy has nothing to gain.

It certainly deserves to be checked out. Plus it definitely would make alot of puzzle pieces make sense.

edited to add: Now, Scott's family DOES have something to gain by lying for him about the timeline.....and after a year, SPECIFIC dates can be foggy....on BOTH sides.

Any way that you look at it, if he killed her of if he hired someone to kidnap or kill her... he is guilty of her death and Conners.

Just because he didn't do it himself doesn't make him any less guilty in my opinion. If he did indeed hire someone, then he should go down for it, just as if he had done it with his own two hands.

I've thought from the beginning that Scott didn't do it with his own two hands. I know a murderer. It takes a particular type of person to murder. I don't mean accidently kill, I mean intentionally murder. I don't see that in Scott. He doesn't have the _____s. (you fill in the blank).

It might have been an arrangement to steal the vehicle...while Laci took her morning walk and Scott was away. She came home, those guys were caught in the act...they threw her into the van. THE END

BUT... the timeline is OFF, Scott and Laci were in SanDiego on November 29.

If the timeline is off, I don't think that means a whole lot....the question is not WHEN Scott met with these guys, the question is: DID he meet with these guys? They could be off by a day or two, but that doesn't mean the meeting didn't happen. I mean, I doubt that a criminal like Cory Lee Carroll keeps an agenda in which he notes all his meetings, and their exact date and time.....

And like I said before, I know we cannot take a criminal's word 100%, but if we never accepted the word of a criminal, MANY cases would go unsolved. He has nothing to gain in coming forward....in fact may be putting his life on the line....because if he is giving info about "Nazi Low Rider" members, then he is probably a target for every "Nazi Low Rider" out there.
