The woman who admitted having an affair with Scott Peterson is being protected by private guards and now lives in a gated community with round-the-clock security, her father said Friday.

"She hardly goes out now," said Amber Frey's father, Ron Frey. "She goes to work. She's got to live, but she mostly stays home."

Amber Frey, now 28, burst into the public spotlight in January when she announced that she had had an affair with Peterson, saying that he had told her that he was not married.

Peterson's 27-year-old pregnant wife, Laci, had been reported missing Christmas Eve in Modesto. Her body and that of the couple's unborn son, Conner, were found in mid-April along the eastern shoreline of San Francisco Bay.

Peterson, 30, was arrested several days later and charged with two counts of murder in the deaths. He could receive the death penalty if convicted.

Ron Frey said he was concerned for his daughter's safety after she became ensnared in a case that plays across tabloid news racks and cable television news shows.

"What good would it do to put her in witness protection? Everybody knows her," Frey said. "Sure there's security. I cannot account for the police, whether they've got people involved or not."

Modesto police said Frey cooperated with their investigation, and court documents show that officers tapping Peterson's phones monitored a call between her and Peterson on the night of Jan. 20, almost a month after Laci Peterson was reported missing.

Prosecutors and Gloria Allred, the attorney representing Frey, have declined to say if the Fresno massage therapist will testify at Peterson's preliminary hearing, now set for Oct. 20.

But Ron Frey said his daughter was dismayed after the hearing was pushed back earlier this week.

"She's anxious for this to be over," he said. "She was very disappointed when they postponed the preliminary."

Allred said Friday that she could not comment on whether any recent development made Frey fear for her safety.

"We have no comment on whether or not she's taking extra security precautions," Allred said.

Police and Stanislaus County district attorney's officials did not return calls requesting comment.

NOTE: I do not understand why Amber is in the spotlight or needs body guards, especially since she did and has private sessions, no doubt with her 'massage therapy' employment...what do those body guards do? Follow the client into the room? Yikes !

I can not understand how one woman that had met a man a month I will never understand how a Mother of a child would leave her baby in the care and control of a man she had just met. I never will understand that one. Was it a rumor? I would like to believe it was.

I hope that one day all of this will be explained.

Which in my opinion is not the reason.

It has been said that he was someone you felt you could trust immediately. I, personally would not have let him pick up my child, but it hard to say what actually transpired between the two of them.

This sounds like a very expensive lifestyle. Wonder how Frye is paying for it??

I don't think that her finances are anyone's concern. She isn't on trial.

Yes, she was taken in by Scott Peterson. She probably thought he was the man of her dreams, Laci thought that too...

I've wondered if she and her child had been threatened. I see no other reason for 'round the clock' body guards...and I don't know how there could be 'round the clock' body guards unless the guards went into the rooms during a client visit.

As I recall, Stayner (who lived in the same area) visited 'massage therapist' for treatment but we all know he's in prison, however there are more out there resembling Stayner and not to forget Perry Monroe.

I think it WOULD matter, very much, if she is getting paid in advance for her story. We all know she has a story to tell. And whether she is getting an advance on that story would be of great interest to many. I don't know if any law would be violated in her doing so. Whoever might be paying her would have a great interest in keeping her alive so she CAN tell her story. So, it might not be just her family who thinks she needs protection from something, or someone.

She obviously has a storied past. It's good that she seems to be rebuilding her lifestyle into a more respectable existance. For her child's sake, I hope she continues on that path.

Yes. I saw a story about Stayner on TV a week or so ago. I couldn't get over the fact that they said that LE in Modesto rounded up all the low life, jailed them, and then issued a statement that the general public need not worry, that they were safe from any harm. At the time, there had been 3 women killed. Of course, Stayner then killed his 4th victim. So the citizens of the area were NOT safe. So much for LE in Modesto. I wonder if they learned anything from that experience.

I wonder what the status of the Perry Monroe investigation is...

I have been unable to find an update on Perry Monroe, but I did find a web site which may be related.(sister?)
